(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The AED250m ($68m) will include a library, Islamic museum and multi-purpose hall in addition to public services buildings, car parking and shops, state news agency WAM reported. The 18,000 sq m project, which will be named Sheikh Khalifa Mosque, will “strengthen the vital function of mosques as a centre of cultural, intellectual and social life of the citizens”, the statement said. Abu Dhabi opened Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the world’s third largest mosque, in 2007. The mosque, which can accommodate up to 41,000 worshippers, features 82 domes, 24-carat gold gilded chandeliers and the world’s largest hand knotted carpet. The $545m project is named after the UAE’s late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahayan.
